?Sasso? means ?stone? and while the fruit that ends up in the ?Sasso? comes from our stoney grey gravel soils, this is a barrel selection wine, chosen in the winery not just in the vineyard.Steve progressively tastes the barrels as they are aging and marks the ones that he finds most intriguing. Often the tightest, shyest barrels, they are the ones with the most longevity and potential.
Sweet red cherry fruit sits high in the bouquet, pretty with floral notes, berries on briar, strawberry, musk, light spice, beautiful to sniff on. Medium weight, supple, succulent, long in flavour. Utterly superb from first sip. Sit up in seat moment stuff. Has glide, purity of fruit, intensity, great vitality, finishing with a gradually building pucker of lacy tannin. It?s so good. 96 Points, Wine Front
