Petaluma Piccadilly Chardonnay is selected from seven “distinguished site” vineyards in the Piccadilly Valley that are now over thirty years old.
The Piccadilly Valley received wonderful winter rainfall before a very dry spring, and then the hottest December on record. Fortunately, the vineyards were energised by 80mm of rain in late January, with a further 40mm in early Febuary. The remainder of the season was beautiful with cool autumnal conditions. The perfectly ripe abundant crop was hand picked form the 3rd to the 13th of March and processed at our winery near Woodside.
The 2016 Petaluma Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay is typical of our style. Lemon curd, white peach and nectarine dominate the wine, with hints of smokey bacon oak. Barrel fermentation in 40% new French oak barriques, hogsheads and puncheons and 60% older French oak barrels is complemented by partial malolactic fermentation.
Bracing, crunch acidity with creamy texture, signal a wine to cellar for many years, yet wonderfully drinkable now.
