d’Arenberg The Stump Jump Cabernet Merlot 2014
d’Arenberg The Stump Jump Cabernet Merlot 2014 shows beautifully elegant on the palate, but still offers plenty of dark, sweet fruits. The mint and leafy notes work as a nice counterpoint to the more luscious mulberry fruit. The cedary notes and fine grained tannin draw the wine to a long and focused finish. Primary, balanced, and vibrant in youth, this wine is as appealing now as it will no doubt be in 3-5 years.
Since 1912, the Osborn family have tended vineyards in the McLaren Vale, South Australia. the grapes used in d’Arenberg The Stump Jump Cabernet Merlot 2014 are mostly from very old bush vines and underwent gentle crushing, traditional open tank fermentation, basket pressing and oak maturation prior to bottling. It is rumoured that the inventor of the Stump Jump plough, which enabled a ploughshare to jump over tree roots, had poor eyesight and required regular tests to ensure he could still operate machinery. If one is able to hold the bottle at arm’s length and still read the front label, make sure to pour another glass.
